About Dr. Sharkey

Hi!  I am a podiatrist, wife to Tom, and mom to Meredith.

I grew up in Wisconsin on a dairy farm.  I am the oldest of five girls!  As a first-generation college student, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology.  In the summer of 2005, just after graduating college and before moving to Chicago to start my medical training, I met Tom through mutual friends.  I graduated from podiatry school in 2009 and stayed in Chicago for my residency.  Tom also moved to Chicago in 2009 and we were married in 2010!  After completing my 3 year surgical residency in 2012, I started my first job with a large hospital system just south of Chicago in Northwest Indiana. We got our dog, Charlie, in 2012 and bought the land that we would build our first home on. We moved into that home in 2013 and in 2014 we welcomed our daughter, Meredith.  After 5 years of living in Indiana, we decided to make a big change and moved to Texas! I am currently in practice with a classmate from podiatry school at North Austin Foot & Ankle Institute.  We are loving life as Texans!

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a doctor.  I started volunteering at our community hospital delivering food trays once per week when I was just 14 years old.  At 16, I spent my summer getting licensed as a certified nursing assistant.  I worked on an inpatient rehabilitation unit through high school and all of college.  I loved caring for patients and interacting with nurses, therapists and physicians.  I am so grateful for those early experiences in medicine and to all those who served as my mentors.  It was during my time as a certified nursing assistant that I first learned about podiatry!

I love practicing podiatry.  I love being a wife.  I love being a mom.  While I am not sure finding “balance” amongst these roles is achievable, I love my crazy and busy and wonderful life.  I am happy you’re here!

My goals for this space are to:

• Educate on foot and ankle health

• Encourage a lifestyle rooted in wellness

• Inspire females in pursuit of their dreams

• Humanize medicine through the sharing of my life and interests outside of medicine

• Be a resource of knowledge for medical practices looking to grow their patient base while providing education through the power of social media
